Destination: Prague Dates: March 2023 Nights: 2 nights Accommodation: Hotel Alantic Highlights: Mala Starna, St Charles Bridge and Chimney cakes Lowlights: Hotel, breakfast and old town We took advantage of the British Airways January sales and purchased a city break in Prague. The city known for the Old Town Square, Gothic churches, Prague Castle and Charles Bridge. Also known as the beer capital of the world and its no wonder stags flock here to celebrate! We stayed in the 3-star Hotel Alantic in the Old Town , we must have got the room they forgot to put on the website as our room looked like something from Hostel.
Airport to the Old Town Square
Getting from the Airport to the Old Town Square was not as straightforward as most European cities I’ve been to. A ticket is valid for 90 minutes and costs 32CZK (£1.25), which will allow you to travel on buses, trams and metros. The bus stop is outside Terminal 2 (Exit 1) take bus 119 to Nadraz, Velesalvin and then catch the Metro line A to Staroměstská.
Top 5 Things We Did in Prague
1. Explore the Old Town and watch the Astronomical Clock

The astronomical clock in Prague is the third oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest still operating. The figurines move their heads and hands when the clock rings to signalize every hour from 9 am to 11 pm. It does attract a lot of attention so you will not have trouble finding its location.

Our hotel was located close to the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) and we weren’t short of things to do or see. The Old Town Square is the oldest and most significant square in the historical centre of Prague. Its history dates back to the 10th century, when it served as a marketplace at the crossroads of European trade routes. Here we explored the preserved buildings and monuments such as the Church of Our Lady in front of Tyn, The Old Town City Hall and the Baroque church St. Nicolas.
2. Get an Old Czech Chimney Cake

These cakes were the dogs bullocks. They are everywhere in the city, with some shops doing different variations of them and I was happy to try them all. My favourite being the pistachio and ice cream.
3. Charles bridge

Built in 1357, it is the oldest bridge in Prague. It connects the Old town with the Malá Strana (Lesser town) and it’s filled with tourist, painters, musicians, photographers and vendors. The bridge is stunning and looks like a set from a fairy tale movie. Take your time to soak in the atmosphere and listen to street musicians. Different times of the day brings a different experience but my favorite was at sunrise and sunset
4. Mala Strana (Lesser town)
There was nothing ‘less’ about Mala Strana. Whilst most of the shops bars, restaurant and public transport are in the Old Town. Mala Strana was more picturesque, quaint and less busier. So take the time to explore Mala Strana and discover the hidden gems that await around every corner. We got a birds eye view and saw Prague from a different angle up the Petrin Tower (£7 entrance), wrote our names on the Lennon Wall and checked out the Gothic Prague Castle and wandered through the charming streets.

5. Indulge in Czech Cuisine and Beer
No trip to Prague would be complete without sampling some traditional Czech cuisine and beer. Head to one of the city’s many beer halls or pubs to try hearty dishes like goulash, pork knuckle, schnitzel, and dumplings, washed down with a pint of the local brew. Lover of beer? Then why not experience a beer spa, yes you heard me correctly…relax in a oak bath tub with bubbles, hops, malt, beer yeast, and some beer. Apparently, it’s suppose to be good for the skin! Having the unlimited Czech beer on tap will make you believe anything. Got a sweet tooth? You won’t be disappointed as there are pick’n’mix shops everywhere so you can be top up on your adventures.

Conclusion
Prague is a city that captivates visitors with its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. Whether you’re exploring the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, marveling at the beauty of Prague Castle, or indulging in traditional Czech cuisine, there’s no shortage of unforgettable experiences to be had in this enchanting city. So pack your bags, grab your camera, and get ready to fall in love with the magic of Prague.
